Food for the Soul: 10a Alabama Handmade Fair
Lately, I've been making time to feed my soul, the part where creativity lives.Been doing more crafting at home, been writing more, met with a calligrapher friend, and even attended a class in CraftMNL to learn fabric printing. I've realized that while I go home from work every day happy and fulfilled, keeping my senses open to new, creative experiences, no matter how simple, fills me with joy, opens my mind, fills me up with energy and new ideas wanting to flow out of me. To concretize this i came up with some sort of 'creativity creed' (part1)...Last month I probably reached my creativity quota when I experienced the 10a Alabama Handmade Arts & Crafts Fair. The fair has been going for more than a year, every quarter I believe, at a house in Quezon City (its address is its name, 10a Alabama street). When there is no fair, it is the address of Ressurection Furniture and Found Objects Gallery.Though we got there in the evening of the first day, even at almost closing time, the place was still abuzz with its sellers and shoppers. Here are some interesting finds and sights I took in that day....The Thingabobs booth was filled with charming curios, custom jewelry and trinkets...Loved this one..because it reminded me of R:)R liked this one because it reminded her of her furry friend Snowy...Loved these hand carved rubber stamps from Rubber Duckie Stamp CoThe girls at this booth called the ones on the top row her Spice Girls stamps. R took one of them home.STAMP right now, thank you very much, I need somebody with the human touch...EVERYBODY SING....The Obra Paduding booth of Erika also caught our eye.She makes vintage clips and pendantsand hung them on the most authentic corkboard I've ever seen...Was also wonderful to bump into Jacklyn of I.am.handmade but she had to pack up her booth early.Jacklyn's handmade dolls are such a hit specially among Waldorf kids and parents (photo from expo kid 2012)And Mariel of Sitting Pretty Crafts Studio who was also one of our vendors at the Mommy Mundo Bazaar! Love Mariel's magnet boards!!living up to its name, pretty magnet boards indeed by a mompreneur crafterand she makes such pretty magnets too!Seeing this print on the wall was timely......and again I am reminded of those words when I see my little one on the floor the morning after our inspired art tripping....I realize I'm not the only one who came out inspiredAnother print: Creativity takes courage. - Henry MatisseIndeed it does. It takes courage to carve out creative time each day specially when you have 1001 other things to do. It takes courage to feed your creative passions when it seems important only to you. To be artistic is to be vulnerable, commensurate to baring your soul and putting it out there for the world to see and judge. But these are the things that make one feel alive and the experience pays you back with pure joy and so much more....'creativity creed' (part2)...Find what makes you happy then find time for it a few minutes each day. Do it for yourself. Do it with your kids but also do it alone. Join me in my journey and let's celebrate where it leads us. Let me know how it goes for you. I'm excited to know:)
