Innovations Moms Love
During the last Mompreneur Summit, we talked about being business for a purpose. When I think about the mompreneurs who are active in our community, most have set up businesses to answer needs of fellow moms. With my own business, Mommy Matters Nursingwear, I was a new mom and was having a difficult time breastfeeding my eldest son Coby especially in public, so my cousin Candice and I decided to offer the market breastfeeding clothes to make it easier and more discreet for moms to breastfeed. Years later, the challenge now is in innovating, and striving to evolve with the market we try to serve. With younger moms and being a fashion brand, there are requests for different fabrics, styles like spaghetti straps and strapless styles, different nursing openings, etc. As a customer-focused company, we try our best to keep answering those needs even if it entails a lot of effort, time, and usually cost as well. For bigger companies with more resources, the innovation process is probably not simpler, but possibly much easier, what with product development teams in place, market research data and other systematized methods of gathering customer feedback. With sheer corporate will and mandate, the goal to serve needs of customers, can be done 24-7, with so much possibility, and innovate in a relevant manner. One of the mom-focused brands that constantly innovates is Philips Avent. Their new natural line of breastpumps which was launched a few months ago is not only more compact, it is also better designed and allows moms to pump milk even when reclined. The Philips Avent grown up cups are not only non-spill, its lid is lip-activated! The cup only lets out liquid when the child's lip is pressed on the cup. Then this newly released travel feeding container has seemingly simple features but very well-thought out ones I think! The container is BPA free, has one main compartment and two more, with removable containers making it flexible for dry snacks and blended food, or a combination of each! It also has a compartment for the weaning spoon outside. Its cover is airtight and leakproof. Lastly, it comes with a suction cup to be placed on its bottom, and it is removable! Making this great container versatile enough to grow with baby into toddlerhood.Another new product is the Philips Avent bendable learning spoon. Check it out. This one's made to make the little ones who are learning to self-feed happy. It has a rubber grip, specially designed for small hands. Now trying to get that spoonful of yummy mashed carrots becomes much easier, and pulling the spoon out of one's tiny mouth wont be such a challenge because the spoon's tip bends easily from left to right.Seemingly simple innovations but to those that matter, it makes a big difference. It also means the brand is always thinking of its users and cares enough to always find ways to serve their needs. Now to get down to designing those new nursingwear styles our Mommy Matters moms are requesting for.:)
